Liqueur distilling has been a Dutch specialty for centuries. In the 17th century, when the great VOC trade ships returned from the far east with unheard of herbs and spices, liqueur making became an art in the Netherlands.
Our enchanting tasting session is led by a distillery expert who will share the exciting stories behind some legendary liqueurs. Stories like Hansje in the Cellar, Brides’ Tears and Half and Half.
Enjoy a 15-minute Bols distillery tour with an explanation of the distilling. To follow there will be a 45-minute Tasting and selection of two liqueurs, two genevers, a brandy and a bitter. The entire tasting session will take place in an authentic 17th Century Dutch Proeflokaal (Dutch for tasting tavern). This is an amazing example of 17th century Dutch architecture and interior design. It has maintained its high standards for more than three centuries. The staff even still insist on the traditional bow to take the first sip from the traditional tulip glass! Genevers and liqueurs produced here are all made with flavour extracts taken from natural ingredients. This ensures the highest quality and finest flavours.
