The Hermitage’s exhibitions aim to use art and history to provide an opportunity for reflection, inspiration, and personal development. To this end they maintain a remarkably diverse selection of exhibitions.
The Hermitage was opened in 2010; St Petersburg and Amsterdam hold strong historic ties. Peter the Great spent time in the Dutch capital studying boat building. The Hermitage uses this historic bond between these great cities as a source of inspiration for its exhibitions.
The Amstelhof, where museum is housed, is one of Amsterdam’s most impressive historical buildings. Built in 1681, this classical style building was provides the perfect setting to view The Hermitage’s collections.
The museum holds two permanent collections. One exhibition focuses on Netherlands-Russia relations and the other on the history of the Amstelhof. In addition, the museum runs temporary exhibitions of pieces selected from the St. Petersburg Hermitage collection.
