With a huge collection of extraordinary art by world-renowned artists, including a great number of major Dutch artists, the Stedelijk holds 90,000 objects dating from 1870 to the present day. The Stedelijk has one of the worlds’s richest collections of modern and contemporary art, including some of the finest works of the last 2 centuries. This phenomenal museum regularly runs exclusive exhibitions and features the works of artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Wassily Kandinsky, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Marc Chagall, Henri Matisse, Jackson Pollock, Karel Appel, Andy Warhol, Willem de Kooning, Marlene Dumas, Lucio Fontana, and Gilbert & George.
Along with important names from modern painting movements such as Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Expressionism, it has a unique collection of 29 paintings by Casimir Malevich, equally exceptional collection of De Stijl and Cobra movement, superb Dutch photography collection, a superb collection of Dutch design and furniture, and interesting collections of European and American trends in art since 1950, including Matisse, Picasso, Newman, Rauschenberg and Warhol, complete with Italian Arte Povera and German modern painting.
